On August 1, 2025, the national standard GB/T 45850.1-2025 "Packaging Bags Test Conditions Part 1: Paper Bags" was officially approved and released, and will be officially implemented on November 1, 2025. This standard will provide unified specifications for paper bag testing technology and meet the needs of the rapid development of the packaging industry.
Market level: 56% of the LEGO Group’s product packaging has been converted to paper bags
The global toy giant LEGO Group announced that 56% of its building block packaging production lines have successfully transitioned from disposable plastic bags to recyclable paper inner bags, using materials from sustainable sources. About 93% of the packaging (by weight) in the LEGO product portfolio is already composed of paper, cardboard and other fiber-based materials.
Currently, paper packaging bags have been fully put into use in LEGO factories in China and Vietnam, and are planned to be implemented in the Czech Republic and Hungary in 2026, and in Mexico in 2027. LEGO engineers are advancing the "Paper Bag 2.0" plan, with the goal of improving the speed and efficiency of paper bag packaging equipment and eventually surpassing the capacity of the plastic bag packaging machines they are replacing.
Enlightenment to paper bag factories: The trend of international brands “replacing plastic with paper” is clear, and the demand for paper bags continues to expand. It is recommended to pay attention to high value-added categories such as food take-out paper bags, retail shopping paper bags, and brand customized paper bags. At the same time, pay attention to the technical requirements for paper bag testing in the new national standard.
